Awhile back, I made the easiest DIY project for skin – Hyaluronic Acid Serum and I’m still loving it!
What is Hyaluronic Acid? Sounds toxic – acid? It’s actual the exact opposite of toxic. Hyaluronic Acid is a substance that your body naturally produces. This substance helps in retaining collagen which aids in elasticity (less wrinkles), as well as flexibility of the skin. This clear substance also helps lubricate your joints and gives your skin moisture. Now the bad news; as we age, we produce less of this substance – wah wah…sucks I know!
GOOD NEWS – You can make your own Hyaluronic Acid to apply to your skin. The biggest challenge is absorption! How do you ensure the acid absorbs into your skin instead laying on the top layer? Seriously the biggest challenge. Lots of people pay to have the acid injected into their skin – usually anywhere on the face to add plump (lips, cheeks, lines on the face).
Hyaluronic Acid Serum Recipe:
Ingredients: – Click on the links below to see my fav products!
Easy as 1-2-3:
Combine all of the ingredients in an airtight container and shake really well until it is thoroughly mixed. I use a small mason jar. The product may be lumpy so let it rest and shake it again after an hour or more.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks (because this recipe is preservative-free, you must store in the refrigerator to keep fresh).
How to Apply for Best Absorption:
Pick your step after cleansing:
- Use a very warm washcloth to steam your face
- Steam your face with a face steamer (boiling water on stove works)
- Wipe your face with a toner such as rose water
Immediately apply the serum after one of the methods above. You can mix the serum with your moisturizing OR apply your moisturizer following the serum.
I absolutely love this this serum! I apply it to my entire face, neck, back of hands, arms, stomach and legs.
It may sound tedious and time consuming but REMEMBER, never take your skin for granted!
Hope your enjoy this recipe! Let me know what you think!
